One Little Step - a short seaside musical
"With
a spirit full of music and heart aching to love, Charlie, our story’s
heroine, finds enchantment amongst the tarnished glitter of a seaside
town. Her imagination brings life and vibrancy to the town and transforms
her workplace, the Windmill Hollywood Adventure Golf Course, into the
Moulin Rouge that its exterior emulates.
When Charlie sweeps into the life of sand sculptor Jake it is a meeting of two kindred spirits but each is too nervous to step out from their own private imaginary realm. After a series of near misses Charlie eventually takes courage from her musical fantasies. The town comes alive in song and dance inspiring Charlie to take a chance, to take one little step, and to open herself up to love."
One Little Step is the latest work from local talents Emily Blickem and David Hipkin. Shooting for the movie is set to commence by the end of Summer. One Little Step is touted as a 'short seaside musical' which will be filmed on location entirely in Great Yarmouth. Choosing to set the film in Great Yarmouth has already received an enthusiastic response from local business owners who are kindly donating their locations free of charge. Although many of the crew and cast positions have already been filled, the crew would love to hear from local people who are interested in getting involved. In particular, local dancers, extras or crew. Unfortunately, due to the low budget nature of the film, they cannot offer any payments to those wanting to get involved. The entire cast & crew are volunteering their services free of charge. The crew promise a great experience on set with a fun, friendly and professional cast and crew with a few hot drinks and snacks thrown in.
If any local business owners are interested in sponsoring the project through discounted food or accommodation or who would just like to make a small donation to the production, the crew can offer them in exchange, a film credit and a mention in any major publicity relating to the project.
Emily and David are independent filmmakers and although they are a non-commercial group, have received extensive local publicity for our previous projects, in particular for my Emily's last film, Black Box. It has featured on Anglia TV, and also in local Cambridge papers and magazines. They also have some of their films showing as part of the Edinburgh Fringe throughout the month of August and have received welcome publicity and reviews from the screenings.
Black Box was sponsored by Cambridge City Council, and will be used by them as an entertaining, educational tool for children and young people. The idea being to get them thinking about the environment and recycling. You can read a little about that and view the trailer at www.madandbad.co.uk/blackbox.htm. Black Box also screened at the GreenFilm Festival in Stoke back in June and has screened in the US as part of a Cambridge short films showcase in Austin, TX.
You can read a little about ‘One Little Step’ at www.madandbad.co.uk/onelittlestep.htm where you can also listen to samples of the music which will be used in the film. Some fantastic songs have been composed especially for the film by Dominic Halpin, www.dominichalpin.com.
