Great Yarmouth Jetty Demolition
JANUARY 2012
The famous Jetty on Great Yarmouth seafront has been demolished. With structural repair bills likely to exceed £300,000 the decision was taken early in 2012 to remove rather than repair the historic structure.
In truth there was nothing spectacular about The Jetty but it held fond memories for locals and visitors. Many folk will recall days of idle fishing, boat trips to Scroby Sands, sunbathing and sipping tea at the Jetty Cafe while Brian and Anne Aldred prepared yet another bacon butty...
Admiral Nelson returned to England using Great Yarmouth Jetty as his landing point after Trafalgar. This was not, however, because he fancied an ice-cream or a game of Crazy Golf.
