Bogeyman

He may now be a household name beloved of day-time chat show viewers, but back in 1983 he was just plain old Boycey from Oulton Broad near Lowestoft.

Boycey penned some songs in honour of his fictional hero Fungus The Bogeyman, which naturally led straight to making a bogeyman mask and stealing an old overcoat from a passing tramp - Boycey became that bogeyman.

Before the week was out he was acting out his burgeoning bogey fantasies down on Oulton Marsh with only a hand-held VHS video camera for company...

The resulting films were re-discovered in March 2006 during an attic clearout in Hemsby near Great Yarmouth, and we rushed straight to the digital remastering lab with what was left of the ancient VHS tape.

Younger viewers may enquire as to whether computer-generated CGI were used to acheive the Bogey Bike 'inner-tube separation' effects in the films. Sadly the leading home computer of the day was the Commodore VIC20 (20K RAM) and video editing was but a dream. The action was acheived using a real bicycle of dubious integrity, and involved extensive rehearsals following a comprehensive Health and Safety audit. Or maybe not the last bit...
