Great Yarmouth Video Vault:
Doctor Banana

Here's a real curiosity.

Doctor Banana never played an actual gig, prefering the idle life of fiddling about with tape recorders and cheap video cameras to shivering in the back of a clapped-out Transit.

The songs were recorded using the old 'bounce' method of live mixing between two cassette recorders but these guys obviously mastered that art. The videos were edited in the same way, winding back and forth using two second-hand VHS machines, hitting the 'Record' button on the master machine just at the right second and hoping the join would be not too jerky.

The music and video were made at 'Plummers' in Plumtrees, Sands Lane, Oulton Broad. I'm sure the neighbours fondly recall the regular Band Nights when various dubious characters would congregate to loudly practise their instruments in the front room and spare bedroom...

Song: TV Games
This is so dated! But then again, are you old enough to remember a world without PCs and Playstations? If not, consider the mind-blowing effect of being able to play Space Invaders, Pacman and Breakout at home on your telly instead of at 10p a go in some crappy pub or arcade...

Postscript
Sadly, Doctor Banana were forced to pack it all in when the EEC ruled that bananas had to be a particular shade of yellow and bent.
