Bus Ambush Routes Review

Tuesday 25th February 2003
Bus operator First is reveiwing the provision of bus services in some Gorleston areas following recent attacks on buses. Routes around the Magdalen Estate - notable Church Lane and Brasenose Avenue - may have evening services withdrawn since driver and passenger safety are at risk.

The latest of a series of incidents occured on Sunday when a bus was apparently shot at, causing two windows to explode in showers of glass. Fortunately, no one was injured.

General Manager Mr Fred Mantripp noted that Great Yarmouth had the worst record in Norfolk for bus-attack incidents with over 90 confirmed cases in the last 18 months.
