Decision soon on heliport future
Thursday 5th August 2010Great Yarmouth could hear more about the future of its heliport by the end of the month.
Controlling company CHC is awaiting the results of a lengthy review over whether to move its fleet of five helicopters and 70 staff from the North Denes site to Norwich.
At the moment it focuses mainly on flying offshore workers to and from North Sea platforms, handling around 30,000 passenger movements a year.
Aberdeen-based CHC is consulting with all its clients and Yarmouth Borough Council about a possible relocation and the results should be known by the end of August.
The council fear the towns economy will be hit if the 70 jobs are moved and fewer offshore workers stay in the town's guest houses and hotels.
It is thought the company is considering the move because of the cost of building a new runway at North Denes.
A spokeswoman for the company said their priority was to provide the best possible service to both current and potential future customers.
