Dorothy Perkins quits Yarmouth store
Friday 15th June 2012Fashion store Dorothy Perkins is closing its Market Gates shopping centre outlet in Great Yarmouth today after 36 years.
Shop manager Tracy High, who is being transferred to Lowestoft, thanked all local customers and holidaymakers for their support.
It is understood that all five staff, one of whom had worked there for 22 years, have been redeployed by the company - part of the Arcadia group which also owns Burtons, Bhs and Evans in the town.
Dorothy Perkins was one of Market Gates’ original tenants and the first to take up space when the precinct opened in the mid-1970s.
Town centre manager Jonathan Newman said the closure did not reflect on Dorothy Perkins’ performance locally but was part of a wider strategy not to renew leases and concentrate on consolidating the brand within Bhs and Outfit.
He didn’t expect the unit to stay empty for long because of its prime position in the shopping centre.
