Harbouring hopes of a viewing point
Friday 12th December 2008Sightseers will be steered away from a close-up view of Great Yarmouths new outer harbour when it goes into operation.
Custom and security controls will mean the original South Denes loop will be stopped off with motorists allowed no further than Hartmann Road unless they are on official business.
But the borough However council is in talks with harbour operator Eastport UK over a possible viewing platform off South Beach Parade and north of Hartmann Road.
The councils head of regeneration Tim Howard said the outer harbour was the biggest development Yarmouth had seen in 100 years.
But he felt the stopping-up order was necessary for the port to function safely.
The land at South Denes will support the activity at the outer harbour possibly for loading and unloading containers.
Businesses within the restricted site will not be affected by the road closure with access for workers maintained.
