Heliport to stay - for now

Friday 25th March 2011
Plans to close Great Yarmouth’s heliport have been shelved.

CHC Helicopter has decided to put on hold its proposal to shut the North Denes site and base its offshore work at Norwich International Airport.

The company announced that under current market conditions the plan to move was not viable.

CHC’s vice president of operations Nick Mair said they were disappointed not to be making the move as they believed it was a positive one – if taken at the right time and under the right market conditions.

But that was not the case at the moment so it remained business as usual for North Denes.

The decision was welcomed in Yarmouth where borough council leader Barry Coleman said it presented a second chance for the town to retain the heliport, used by an estimated 30,000 people a year, also bringing trade for local hotels, restaurants, shops and taxis.
