Hospital chief promises improvements
Friday 20th April 2012New chief executive of the James Paget Hospital, David Hill, has promised improvements as his "top priority" after another warning over its standards of patient care.
After the latest inspection last month, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) said the hospital needed to implement improvements quicker.
Its report revealed failings in preparing patient care plans and in staff understanding of Do Not Attempt Resuscitation (DNAR) forms.
Mr Hill, who took up his job after the CQC inspection, said that the hospital fully accepted that the necessary pace of improvement here has not been fast enough. There should have been a quick response.
The CQC report found example of incomplete documentation which meant some patients' care was not properly planned. The DNAR forms did not make clear how a decision not to resuscitate a patient was reached.
The hospital said it was already improving communications with nursing and medical staff and training had been stepped up.
It also confirmed documentation was being standardised to reduce duplication and paperwork. The policy on DNAR forms is also being reviewed to ensure decisions are clearly documented.
Chairman Peter Franzen said the hospital had gone a long way towards delivering significant improvements towards meeting the standards of care they were striving to achieve.
