More GPs sought for area
Monday 25th April 2011HealthEast CIC (the local pathfinder GP consortium for Great Yarmouth & Waveney) are running an innovative campaign to attract GPs to the area from all over the country. They are looking to attract 10 extra GPs to join the 27 practices in the group to help them shape the future of the new look local NHS.
This latest HealthEast initiative will see GPs and practices working together to design interesting, bespoke jobs to suit the strengths of the GPs and the needs of the practices. In this way GPs wont just be restricted to practice work, but in addition, will be able to use their clinical expertise in redesigning services for patients or carrying out specialist duties, such as in the James Paget hospital Accident & Emergency Department.
Having an increase in numbers of GPs will also boost general practice in the area.
The new arrivals will be playing a key part in changing the role of clinicians in line with the Governments NHS plans to make groups of GPs organise and manage local health services. Clinicians who work within local services and understand their patients needs will design the services together, to get the very best out of available funding.
HealthEast has become one of the most developed GP Commissioning Consortia in the East of England due to initiatives like this, and because we are able to do things very differently from the past.
Dr John Stammers, Chair of HealthEast said This is a time of great opportunity for groups of GPs to mould the way services are developed and we in HealthEast are really keen to put everything in place to strengthen general practice and take those opportunities. We live in a beautiful part of the world and our advanced position as GP commissioners should make us a very attractive place to work and live
Clinical leadership is central to our plans and we need more GPs of all levels of experience and specialties to strengthen even more our high quality general practice. We want the best and most enthusiastic doctors on board with us
HealthEast is a registered Community Interest Company which means all trading surpluses are ploughed back into patient care.
The event will be on 13 May at Dunston Hall, Norwich but the practices and potential recruits will spend time in the HealthEast area to show the advantages of the area.
