New checks on third river crossingTuesday 31st July 2007
Hopes of a third river crossing for Great Yarmouth take a small step forward next week with a series of ground investigations to decide which options might be favoured.
Proposals for the crossing include both a bridge and a tunnel - and the latest checks may show which is favourable.
Norfolk County Council experts will look at soil layers and groundwater levels in assessing the best wayo to cross the Yare.
The aim is to tackle continued traffic congestion around the existing bridges and in the South Quay andf Gapton Hall areas.
The £175,000 investigation programme will be centred on the Harfreys roundabout, Southtown Road and South Denes Road areas.
The team will also have to keep out a wary eye for unexploded bombs during the extensive wartime air raids in the area.
