New hospital chief brings Bermudan experience
Tuesday 28th February 2012An experienced, senior health executive who has spent the past six years working closely with international health systems is to take the helm at the James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as interim chief executive.
David Hill has been working as president and chief executive officer at Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) where he was responsible for the acute care and mental health hospitals on the Island. He joined BHB after leaving the James Paget as chief executive in 2006, a role he had been in since 1999. A qualified accountant, David had originally joined JPUH as Finance Director in 1991.
During David’s tenure, BHB achieved a significant rise in patient satisfaction across inpatient, outpatient and emergency units, improved financial strength, and twice achieved the highest level of accreditation with international patient safety and quality surveyors,
He said: "It gives me great pleasure to assist JPUH in this interim capacity. It comes at the right time, when my contract with BHB ended and I was returning to the UK. It is my pleasure to return and I’m looking forward to working once more with the high quality staff at JPUH to ensure that the hard work to improve the quality of care at the hospital continues to progress while the recruitment for a permanent CEO is completed.”
David is expected to take up his post in April for at least a nine-month period.
A search for a permanent Chairman for the Trust is underway and it is expected a successful candidate will be appointed in May.
