Cameras roll in Yollywood

We’ve had Hollywood and Bollywood – now how about Yollywood? Great Yarmouth is becoming increasingly popular as the backdrop for feature films.

Latest to roll the cameras in the seaside resort will be London-based Goliath Productions which plans to begin filming Fight Back and Service-Man in the town in January.

But it's not its historic quarter, golden sands or scenic waterways which are to be the setting for the gritty drama.

In fact, the role calls for “a decaying society in which drugs, burglary and prostitution are rife.”

Film director/producer Martin Thomas said, however, that it would bring economic benefits to the town and could lead to a permanent studio being set up.

It would also boost the credentials for Yarmouth as a film setting and bring further investment. MrThomas said Yarmouth offered an ideal alternative to filming in London which could be costly and tricky to navigate with a film crew.

The town had similar locations, such as the dockside and industrial areas but also offered the beaches and Broads.

Mr Thomas said the many industrial areas in the town would provide great back drops for scenes in the films. He also said he hoped they would put Yarmouth on the map as a good filming location.
