Hunt is on for new Oriel head

Monday 18th January 2010
The search is on for a £110,000-a-year principal to head Oriel High School if it becomes an academy in the autumn.

Applications are being sought for the new role which would come into effect at Easter.

The job has been advertised even though the academy has yet to receive the go ahead from the government.

A council spokesman said they were hopeful that the academy would be granted aproval and wanted to start the recruitment process as soon as possible

The government wants high schools to ensure that a mimimum of 30% of 16-year-olds get five or more A*-C GCSEs including English and maths. Oriel was one of four schools in Norfolk that fell short last year, with only 23pc. But Oriel is poised to make the move without further prompting.

Those still falling short in 2011 have been told they could be closed down or turned into academies.

The proposed academy would be under lead sponsor The Ormiston Trust, which has sponsored numerous academies across England, alongside education partners the county council and Gresham's School at Holt.
